The Opportunity

A growing independent naval architecture and engineering practice is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Southampton team. This position is focused on delivering meaningful engineering solutions for an international portfolio of superyacht clients.

You will take ownership of structural design deliverables, maintaining strict technical standards across all phases of project execution. Leadership is a key element of this position. You will supervise project teams of engineers and designers while maintaining your own primary design workload. The ideal candidate challenges conventional thinking to develop new ideas, supported by the company’s continuous investment in engineering research.

Key Responsibilities

• Structural Calculations: Perform and check engineering design calculations for bespoke structures.

• Regulatory Compliance: Verify that all structural designs meet flag state, national authority, and classification society rules.

• Quality Assurance: Oversee the technical quality, detailing, and formal checking of team outputs before external release.

• Technical Communication: Coordinate directly with clients, classification societies, and yards to resolve technical queries efficiently.

• Project Management: Manage personal and team workloads across multiple active projects to meet strict deadlines.

• Risk Management: Review project work systematically to identify, track, and mitigate technical risks.

Requirements

• Typically a minimum of 8 years of dedicated structural engineering experience in the marine industry.

• Exceptional capability to process complex technical issues and implement robust engineering solutions.

• Proficiency in generating high-quality structural drawings, computational models, and technical reports.

• Sharp commercial acumen with a track record of tracking progress against contracted deliverables and budgets.

• Self-motivated approach with the capability to mentor junior engineers and plan resource allocations.

Senior Mechanical Engineer | Superyacht Sector

The Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy is expanding its design team in Southampton. We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to complex superyacht projects from conception through to refit.

In this role, you will deliver high-level engineering design work while ensuring all technical specifications and classification standards are met. You will also provide technical guidance to multi-disciplinary colleagues and supervise project-specific engineering teams when required. Innovation is central to our operation. You will actively support research and development initiatives to advance industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Design: Execute precise engineering design calculations for assigned projects.

• Compliance Management: Ensure all project specifications comply fully with classification society and national authority standards.

• Quality Control: Manage the accuracy, detail, and rigorous checking of all project deliverables prior to release.

• Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a technical point of contact for clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.

• Workload Coordination: Balance your deliverables across multiple concurrent projects in alignment with the Discipline Lead.

• Risk Mitigation: Identify potential technical risks early and review them directly with the Technical Project Manager.

Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience within the marine sector.

• Strong technical problem-solving capabilities backed by sound engineering judgement.

• Proven capability to produce clear, precise technical reports, drawings, and plans.

• Commercial awareness to deliver projects on time, to specification, and within budget.

• Excellent self-management skills with the ability to define resource requirements.

We're working with an industry long-termer who are growing their project management team in response to larger and more technical large yacht projects. Located on the UK south coast they employ and operate a team across all areas of large yacht engineering and have multiple awards to their name. 

The role Technical project manager includes the following duties:

- Acting as liaison between studio, yard and owners team

- Troubleshooting across all areas of assigned projects, speaking from a point of knowledge and experience 

- Managing across a range of deliverables such as time, cost and quality

- Completing detailed reports for all stakeholders 

In an individual we're seeking an experienced engineer or naval architect with the capability to lead and manage both internal and external stakeholders. With strong people skills but also excellent technical capability you'll be able to advise and amend documents but also have the awareness and words to explain to those less technical as to why. Commercial acumen is also a key skill requirement.
