Overview

We are seeking an experienced Yacht Technical Manager to oversee the technical management of a fleet of luxury superyachts. The successful candidate will ensure each vessel is maintained to the highest operational, safety, and regulatory standards while providing proactive support to Captains, Chief Engineers, owners, and management teams.

This is a varied role requiring strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical contact for an assigned fleet of yachts.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Captains, Chief Engineers, owners' representatives, and suppliers.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage annual technical budgets and maintenance forecasts.
  • Review expenditure and ensure cost-effective purchasing without compromising quality or safety.
  • Plan and oversee refits, dry dock periods, warranty work, and major technical projects.
  • Coordinate class surveys, flag state inspections, statutory certifications, and planned maintenance programmes.
  • Ensure vessels remain fully compliant with Flag State, Class, ISM, ISPS, MLC, and applicable maritime legislation.
  • Monitor Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and ensure maintenance schedules are completed efficiently.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to onboard engineering teams.
  • Source and manage contractors, shipyards, and specialist suppliers worldwide.
  • Negotiate quotations and manage supplier performance.
  • Attend vessels, shipyards, and project meetings as required.
  • Produce technical reports and updates for owners and senior management.
  • Investigate technical failures and implement preventative solutions.
  • Support emergency response and provide technical assistance during incidents when required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the managed fleet.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Technical Manager within yacht management or commercial shipping.
  • Senior seagoing engineering experience, ideally Chief Engineer on large yachts or equivalent commercial vessels.
  • Strong understanding of superyacht engineering systems including propulsion, electrical, HVAC, hydraulics, AV/IT integration, and hotel systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of:
    • ISM Code
    • ISPS Code
    • MLC
    • SOLAS
    • MARPOL
    • Flag State and Classification Society requirements
  • Experience managing refits, new build warranty periods, or major maintenance projects.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities.
  • Commercially minded with strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Planned Maintenance software.

Desirable

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Marine Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chief Engineer Unlimited CoC or equivalent.
  • Experience within the superyacht management sector.
  • New build or large refit project experience.
  • Knowledge of yacht management software and digital maintenance platforms.
