About the Role

This exciting client are a Norway-based boat building company specialising in the construction of modern composite fishing vessels. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Foreman to take a senior role within their workshop and onboard newbuild projects.

This is a hands-on leadership position for a highly skilled mechanical professional with strong experience in marine engineering, capable of organising work packages and leading mechanical installations in a composite boatbuilding environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, and manage work orders for all mechanical tasks on newbuild composite fishing vessels
  • Act as the senior mechanical presence in the workshop and onboard vessels during construction
  • Coordinate mechanical activities to align with hull, outfitting, and composite construction schedules
  • Oversee and participate in main engine installation, including:
    • Shaft alignment
    • Fuel systems
    • Exhaust systems
    • Cooling systems
  • Install, commission, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including:
    • System installation
    • Start-up and commissioning
    • Fault finding and operational adjustments
  • Perform and supervise fabrication work, including basic welding and construction of custom equipment mountings suitable for composite vessels
  • Fabricate and install components such as:
    • Battery boxes
    • Engine or machinery space stairs
    • Fuel shut-off arrangements and brackets
  • Ensure all installations are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, class requirements, and safety standards
  • Work closely with project management, engineers, electricians, and composite teams to ensure smooth project delivery
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and safe working practices

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior mechanical or foreman role within boatbuilding, shipbuilding, or a similar marine environment
  • Demonstrated experience working within marine engineering on superyachts, ships, and/or other commercial vessels
  • Strong practical experience with marine propulsion systems, hydraulic systems, and auxiliary machinery
  • Fabrication experience, including basic welding and construction of mechanical supports and structures
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, layouts, and mechanical schematics
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and lead work activities
  • Experience supervising and supporting workshop and onboard personnel

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with new build vessels
  • Familiarity with marine classification societies and maritime regulations
  • Good communication skills in English (Norwegian language skills are an advantage)
