Our client are a Norway-based boat building company specialising in the construction of modern composite fishing vessels. They are seeking a skilled Marine Electrician to join our newbuild team, either as a permanent employee or as a freelance subcontractor, supporting the installation, commissioning, and start-up of electrical and electronic systems onboard vessels under construction.

This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced marine electrician with strong practical skills and a methodical approach to fault finding during new build commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test electrical systems on newbuild composite fishing vessels
  • Work with 230V shipnet systems and 24V DC control systems
  • Install and wire ship lighting systems, including internal, external, and navigation lighting
  • Install and wire antenna systems, including routing, termination, and testing
  • Install, connect, and support commissioning of bridge navigation and communication systems
  • Work with and understand NMEA systems and data networks onboard vessels
  • Carry out electrical fault finding and troubleshooting during vessel start-up and commissioning, including:
    • Locating and correcting earth-faults
    • Diagnosing system and communication issues
  • Assist with the design, layout, and specification of ship cabling, including cable routing and segregation
  • Ensure all electrical work is carried out in accordance with drawings, standards, and safety requirements
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, foremen, and other trades to ensure smooth project delivery

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience as a marine electrician within boat building, shipbuilding, or a similar marine environment
  • Solid understanding of 230V AC ship systems, 24V DC control systems, and NMEA networks
  • Proven experience installing and wiring lighting, antennas, and bridge navigation systems
  • Strong fault-finding and commissioning experience on new build vessels
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts
  • Practical, organised, and safety-focused approach to work

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working on new build fishing vessels or commercial craft
  • Familiarity with marine electrical standards and maritime regulations
  • Good communication skills in English (Norwegian language skills are an advantage)
