We are partnering with a highly regarded, independent Advanced Manufacturing Specialist known for delivering complex composite structures and tooling solutions across high-technology sectors, including Aerospace, Defence, Automotive, and Marine. This client is committed to manufacturing excellence, process innovation, and quality. They operate a modern, fast-paced facility and seek a dedicated engineer to drive technical improvements and production efficiency within their diverse, inclusive team.
This is a key technical role reporting to the Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for the definition, planning, and execution of manufacturing processes and tooling solutions for diverse composite projects. Your work will span the full project lifecycle, from initial concept review through to ensuring efficient, repeatable production of high-precision components and tooling.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Process Ownership: Define, document, and manage manufacturing plans and specifications for composite components and associated tooling, ensuring optimal quality, cost, and time efficiency.
Tooling and Fixturing: Design, validate, and manage the procurement of tooling and production fixtures necessary for composite part fabrication (e.g., lay-up, trimming, bonding).
Technical Review & NPI: Lead the technical review of design data, providing Design for Manufacture (DFM) feedback and supporting the successful introduction of new products (NPI).
Process Improvement: Actively identify and implement improvements to existing manufacturing processes (e.g., vacuum bagging, bonding, trimming, curing) to enhance repeatability, reduce scrap, and improve productivity.
Problem Solving: Apply root cause analysis (RCA) techniques to resolve complex manufacturing issues and non-conformances, implementing robust corrective actions.
Documentation & Training: Create and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation and provide effective training and guidance to production staff on new or improved processes.
Essential Knowledge and Experience:
- Proven experience working as an Engineer within a high-tech manufacturing environment, focused on advanced composites.
- Expertise in defining and managing composite manufacturing processes, including lay-up techniques, curing cycles, and trim/bond operations.
- Strong background in tooling design and procurement for composite structures.
- Excellent understanding of quality standards relevant to high-precision manufacturing (e.g., ISO 9001/AS9100).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and the ability to review and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Effective communication skills, capable of liaising professionally with designers, production teams, and suppliers.
